BC Landlord Resources
--
BC Landlord Resources is a regional overview of organizations that support landlord knowledge and education in British Columbia. This listicle is a continuation of the promised provincial resources for landlords that I started last week with Alberta Landlord Resources. I’ll keep adding provincial and some municipal resources throughout the upcoming weeks.
Residential Tenancy Act BC
This is the landlord-tenant legislation in BC that applies to tenancy agreements, rental units, and other residential property.
They can be reached by phone at 1–800–665–8779 or by email at HSRTO@gov.bc.ca
Residential Tenancies BC
This site contains information on rental housing, strata housing, seniors housing, social housing, buying & selling property, building or renovating, and B.C. building codes.
BC Residential Tenancy Branch Complaints
This is a link to file a BC residential complaint.
Dispute Resolution BC
Dispute resolution is the formal resolution process between landlords and tenants — it’s similar to a court proceeding.
When landlords and tenants are unable to resolve an issue related to tenancy, they can apply for dispute resolution.
Service BC
Service BC provides support for hundreds of programs and services the provincial government offers to residents, businesses, and visitors.
BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA)
On August 1, 2021, the Real Estate Council of BC (RECBC) and the Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate (OSRE) integrated into the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA), resulting in one single regulator for real estate in BC. As a result, RECBC and OSRE will no longer exist.
BCFSA regulates credit unions, trust companies, insurance companies, pension plans, mortgage brokers, and real estate professionals, ensuring financial services transactions are protected, for the prosperity of consumers and the province of BC.
